Scarce in a tree calf binding. The first and second volumes of F. Edward Hulme's legendary botanical collection, his life's work, which consisted of a botanical and cultural profile of each wild flower found in the UK alongside a watercolour plate designed by the author. There are 85 stunning full-colour plates across these two volumes. A prize binding, though I haven't been able to locate the institution.
In good to very good condition with weak hinges (rubbed), general edge wear, some tissue guards loose, a few handling marks, the odd spot of foxing. Chip to leather on spine head of Second Series. Plates generally clean and very attractive. Bound in tree calf with delicate gilt vase ornamentation to compartments, raised bands, title label, gilt motif to front board, marbled endpapers and block edges, edge dentelles. 19 x 13 cm. xvi, pp. 160; xv, pp. 160.
