A second edition copy of Annie Rentoul’s classic fairy story with its scarce original dust jacket. 8 colour plates and 8 monochrome plates by the author’s sister, prolific artist and collectable fairy illustrator Ida Rentoul Outhwaite. The book is heavily influenced by the sisters’ home in Australia, with local animals like koalas and kookaburras making an appearance in both the text and illustrations.
Dust jacket darkened with chips along the edges, corners and spine ends, repaired with tape on reverse in multiple places, unclipped with central front panel and spine illustrations both complete. Front hinge starting, ink inscription to ffep, gutters cracked about halfway with plate opposite pg. 62 loosening at bottom. Remaining plates clean and holding, text generally very clean. Bound in blue cloth with title pasted onto the front board, gilt titles to spine, illustrated endpapers. A good copy. Pp. viii, 102. 21.5 x 15 cm.
