Reprint. A classic collection of late Georgian and early Victorian ghost stories, myths and mysteries. They were penned, under a now widely-recognised pseudonym, by the clergyman Richard Harris Barham and originally published as a serial in 1837. The stories were extremely popular, leading to several book format editions being produced from the 1840s onwards. Legendary artist Arthur Rackham was employed to illustrate the Heinemann editions, which include my personal favourite iteration of the Spectre of Tappington (pictured).
