First trade edition. From the library at Halsdon House, owned by Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts and his wife Shirley. A collection of traditional ballads, mostly English and Scottish, taken from Francis James Child and other notable compilers and issued here with 16 colour plates and monochrome in-text illustrations by legendary British artist Arthur Rackham.

In good to very good condition with a knocked lower edge to the front board, some small stains to covers, bumped corners, a slightly sunned spine, light foxing to preliminaries. Gift inscription to forward blank. All plates present and in very good condition, mounted on grey stock. Bound in blue cloth with gilt titles and motifs to front board and spine. Endpapers also illustrated by Rackham. 26 x 19 cm. Pp. [x], 170.
