A sweet Edwardian copy of Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, published as part of St Martin's Illustrated Library of Standard Authors. This edition is accompanied by 10 full colour illustrations by A. Wallis Mills, who also designed the stunning endpapers. Persuasion follows Anne Elliot, who is given another chance at love when the man she was once persuaded to reject returns from the Napoleonic Wars.
This copy is in good only condition with somewhat shaky boards (down to hinges starting) and two of the ten plates loose (though all are present), one plate slightly torn, the text foxed throughout, board edges rubbed, spine ends pulled. Sold at a reduced rate due to the above. A good reading copy. Bound in olivine cloth with a central cameo illustration and gilt details to the front board, gilt titles to the spine, illustrated endpapers and the top edge sprayed green. 19 x 12.5 cm.
