First edition. A fabulous copy of this translation of Geoffroy De La Tour Landry's 14th Century moral tales, which were originally penned in the early 1370s as instruction for his young daughters. The stories are selected and adapted from multiple sources including local folk tales, the bible, and the writer's own personal life experiences, and written to teach his daughters about moral conduct and virtuous behaviour. Features a historiated title page and red lettering alongside a frontispiece and further woodcuts in the traditional style. A wonderful late addition to the medieval revival which accompanied the arts and crafts movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

In very good condition with a lightly browned and creased spine, slightly faded board edges, some pages uncut, light tanning and foxing to preliminary pages. Quarter-bound with a faux vellum paper spine and purple paper-covered boards. 20.5 x 16 cm. Pp. [iv], 229, instructions to binder at rear.
