A delightful Edwardian copy of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, her two posthumously published novels. Northanger Abbey was the first novel Austen wrote, but her publisher squashed it after purchasing the manuscript and it remained unpublished until after the author's death. Persuasion was the last novel written before Austen's death, during which time the author was experiencing significant health issues. The heroine of Persuasion is more mature, mirroring what was becoming a slower and more reflective period of Austen's life. This edition is illustrated with charming line drawings by celebrated artist Hugh Thomson.

In good condition with sunned spine, an amateur conservation tape repair to strengthen the front hinge, knocked corners, the last couple of pages dog-eared, occasional foxing, and a bookplate to the front free endpaper. Bound in a brick-red blindstamped cloth with gilt titles to the front board, titles on spine faded. Generally solid, a nice vintage copy. 20 x 14 cm. Pp. xvi, 443, [3] of catalogue.
