A very scarce Victorian fairy calendar fan for the year 1894, produced by Ernest Nister through their high-quality chromolithograph printers in Bavaria. Ernest Nister was a highly-regarded publisher of illustrated books (mostly children's literature), greetings cards and seasonal ephemera. The company ran from 1841-1906, with its expert chromolithograph process pushing it to the forefront of the booming late-Victorian printed goods market. The fairies on this calendar are of a signature company style, beautifully posed with a floral accompaniment for each month.
In very good condition for a delicate item, though the top leaf is somewhat rubbed and the security ribbon is missing. This could be easily replaced. Firmly secured and complete. Leaves measure 19cm closed, full extension at 32cm.
