First Edition. Volume I only. Very rare. An account of crimes which took place within the jurisdiction of the Thuggee and Dacoitie police over several decades, around 30 years after the police system was first set up in India through the Police Act of 1861. Covers various dramatic trials and instances of robbery, poisoning, blackmail etc., written by a General Superintendent for the local region. Ironically, contains a small sachet of pressed flowers.
In very good condition with light rubbing to hinges, some scratches and rubbing to corners and board edges, a slightly sunned spine, yellowing to some pages. Half-bound in leather with gilt spine compartments and lettering, marbled boards, red speckled edges. 22 x 14 cm. [xi] pp. 459
