Early edition [2nd?]. An attractive copy of Lord Tennyson’s Enoch Arden, a popular narrative poem written during the author’s lengthy tenure as Poet Laureate for Queen Victoria. The poem, which follows the heartbreaking return of a shipwrecked sailor, inspired the US’ Enoch Arden laws which allow deserted spouses to remarry if their partners are missing for a set period of time.

Corners gently bumped, corners, edges and spine bands rubbed, two chips in leather to rear board along spine, small hole to spine head at rear hinge, spine lightly sunned, prelims foxed. Binding firm with the majority of the text clean. Bound in an unusual binding of Morocco leather, stamped in a layered brick pattern with gilt titles in a central coving design. Raised bands and stamped compartments to spine, fully gilt edges. A very good copy. Pp. [vi], 178, [2]. 17 x 10.5 cm.
