New Edition. A delightful collection of illustrated poetry concerning the Christian sabbath, the harmony of nature, prayer, and reflection. Illustrated with colour-tinted engravings by Birket Foster, one of the most popular watercolourists and engravers during the Victorian era. While he was originally from the north of England, Foster's calm bucolic illustrations of the rural south created an attractive image that was used by advertisers well into the early 20th century. This edition published 6 years after the first.
In good condition with light foxing throughout, light wear to the edges, spine ends, and corners. The frontispiece is loose, and there are a couple of small chips and abrasions to the paper on one or two pages. Generally attractive with lovely engravings. Bound in a charming blindstamped dark green cloth with a central giltstamped title column, accompanied by gilt botanicals. Further gilt titles to the spine, all edges gilt. 23 x 17cm. Pp. [viii], 112.
