Fifth Edition. A classic Georgian cookery title (and a very long title at that), in its revised fifth edition format. William Kitchener was the celebrity chef of his day, and his Cook's Oracle was a bestseller both in the United Kingdom and in the USA. The first published recipe for crisps (or 'chips' in the USA) can be found on page 175.
In very good condition, rebound historically using its original leather. Corners gently bumped with light wear, spine showing where the old damage was with a large chip of leather missing at the top of the spine and a smaller area at the tail end. The original spine has been laid over a similar leather in an attempt to blend the damaged areas. Some pages are unevenly rebound, some with chips to edges or closed and folded sections. Lightly foxed throughout with an ink inscription to the page opposite the title and upper contents page.
All now firmly bound together in later green leather with original green leather laid over the top, blindstamped board edges, gilt lineations and titles to the spine, green endpapers. Bookbinder's sticker on front pastedown. 18 x 11 cm. Pp. [iv], xx, 484, [iv].
