A complete 2-volume set containing the famous memoirs of Sir Nathaniel Willliam Wraxall, 1st Baronet, which provided a first-hand account of British and European politics for over a decade during an era of rapid social change. The intimacy of the memoirs caused quite a stir, and actually put Wraxall in prison over a libel charge.
With his bookplate adhered to the front pastedown, this copy once belonged to Robert Ferguson of Raith (1769-1840), Scottish Whig party member and the Lord Lieutenant of Fife.
In good plus condition with sunned spines, some staining to the boards, rubbed edges, and foxed preliminaries. Half-bound in red leather with turquoise paper boards, gilt spine titles, and mottled green block edges. 22 x 14 cm. iv, pp. 549; 583.
