First and only edition. The journal of a fashionable young woman whose disability forces her to observe upper-class Regency society from the outside. Ruthlessly critical and often witty. Very rare. Listed under ‘Novels’ in the July 1813 edition of The British Critic. The preface states that the book is the product of the writings of a young woman who died prematurely - "Her sun set at a very early period of her day of youth”. The author’s identity is still unknown.

Held in 10 institutions worldwide including one copy in the UK at the British Library [Worldcat]. Boards a little scuffed and worn around the edges, corners gently bumped, spine slightly tanned with some marks towards the tail. Front hinge cracked but held strong. Bookplate of M. P. Grace to front pastedown and opposite title. Previous owner’s signature neatly inscribed to upper title page. Light foxing and occasional creasing to preliminaries. Overall good. Half contemporary leather with marbled boards, all edges marbled, green leather title label to spine with gilt titles and accompanying gilt decoration. Pp. [2], [iv], 236. 18.5 x 11 cm.
